It's Improved version of Another version
The original standard-bearer of the TOW series reached out just far enough to cover the maximum effective range of most Cold War-era armored engagements, but shy of the improvements that came with the wire length extensions in later variants.
This platform's name reflects a focus on precision and enhanced target acquisition rather than heavy artillery or older armored vehicles.
This TOW is larger warhead than another
This seeker type “sees” a thermal image of the target, allowing the missile to guide itself autonomously after launch, unlike simpler infrared seekers that detect only heat signatures without forming an image.
It communicates with the launcher wirelessly. There’s no trailing wire, so nothing needs to be cut after launch.
"Multi-Purpose"
It’s a standardized form of steel armor used as a baseline to quantify how deeply a missile’s warhead can penetrate.
Very first version. Around 1960-1980
Close enough to avoid operator interference but short enough for infantry-level anti-armor engagements.
Forms a molten slug that attacks the enemy’s roof.
